The Story: Stroke of Luck is part of the Element series which also includes Low Pressure, Aligned and Sidetracked.

The series was developed from drawings and photos inspired by the nearby scrap yard.

I have always been intrigued by the angles, tension, twists and bends inflicted onto the discarded materials as they get sorted out and precariously stacked up in their allotted corner of the yard. Exposed to the elements, the heaps seem to slowly turn into beast, changing their appearances, colours and textures as they succumb to a newfound sense of harmony with nature. As time goes on, they grow in strength, power and strangely bring a rather friendly presence to my daily drive-by.

Composition: Merino wool, silk threads and fabrics, linen & flax fibers, hand painted silk organza

Process: The traditional wet felting technique uses water, soapsuds and agitation to interlock loose fibers to form a stable and strong structure. Using a merino wool prefelt base, I work in layers and trap textile elements between the layers to create textures and light effects.

Size: 27.5 x 34cm unframed artwork. The artwork is float mounted in a 1.5cm wooden framed and is unglazed.

Care Instructions: As with all fine art I recommend not to place the artwork in direct sunlight, extremes of temperature or high humidity. Occasionally, the artwork can be lightly brushed with a soft paintbrush to remove dust, taking care not to disturb the surface.
