The Story: Sound Waves 5 is part of the Sound Waves series looking at the character of lines and edges. As pieces are hung together, they not only define their differences, but also strengthen their similarities - the echo of sound waves comes to mind.
As the Covid19 pandemic settled over our lives, I needed to focus my practice on clear, distinct and practicable intentions. I decided to explore the impact of the bare line and the tear using only two materials, wool and silk, emphasised with the use of colour. Well, once I got started, it was hard to stop - as, you will have guessed, this is an endless quest....
Composition: Merino wool, silk Organza. Prefelt merino wool base layer.
Process: The traditional wet felting technique uses water, soapsuds and agitation to interlock loose fibers to form a stable and strong structure. On this series I used the resist technique - this leaves some sections of the work free from each other and hence able to separate.
Care Instructions: As with all fine art I recommend not to place the artwork in direct sunlight, extremes of temperature or high humidity. As the artwork is not protected by glass, it can be lightly brushed with a soft paintbrush to remove the dust, taking great care not to disturb the surface.
Shipping: Shipping to UK included. Please message me for International courier costs.
