AS THE CROW FLIES - Meandering semi-abstract hills in earthy tones, and a touch of pink.
Size: 55cm H x 45cm W x 4cm D
Framing: Stretched and framed in a wood tray.
The Story: Hills, valleys, hidden paths meandering through a semi-abstract landscape very typical of the moors where I live, here in West Yorkshire.
The work is stretched over a frame and sits in a wooden tray allowing the viewer to directly connect with the marks and textures in the artwork.
Composition: Merino wool, dyed linen and natural flax fibres, silk threads and fabrics. Silk georgette and cotton muslin base layers.
Process: The traditional wet felting technique uses water, soapsuds and agitation to interlock loose fibers to form a stable and strong structure. I work in fine layers and trap textile elements between the layers to create textures and light effects.
Care Instructions: As with all fine art I recommend not to place the artwork in direct sunlight, extremes of temperature or high humidity. As the artwork is not protected by glass, it can be lightly brushed with a soft paintbrush to remove the dust, taking great care not to disturb the surface.
