The Story: Alchemy is a contemplative piece inspired by space and skyscapes. It is suitable for any large room or stairwell and sure to create a peaceful and soothing atmosphere.

The theme led me to work on a large scale, mindful that at least 20% shrinkage would occur throughout the process; as it happens it was more like 33%…

Inspired by my small watercolour sketch, I worked directly on a light weight silk Georgette. I used large areas of flax and linen to create vibrant textures and light refractions, working in contrast with the cocooning feel of the wool fibers. The bottom part of the artwork is rich in warm and copper tones, slowly exhaling into the airy open space.

Composition: Merino wool, linen, and flax fibers, silk threads and fabrics. Silk Georgette base layer.

Process: The traditional wet felting technique uses water, soapsuds and agitation to interlock loose fibers to form a stable and strong structure. I work in fine layers, trapping textile elements in-between to create textures and light.

Care Instructions: As with all fine art, I recommend not to place the artwork in direct sunlight, extremes of temperature or high humidity. The artwork is not protected by glass, and can be lightly brushed with a soft paintbrush to remove the dust, taking great care not to disturb the surface.
