I offer one-day or two-day workshops to create your own felted landscape, and will take you through the steps and the wet felting techniques I use when making my own artwork.
“Valerie’s workshop is one of the most inspiring workshops I have ever attended based on felt making. Her approach is highly professional; she is well organised, informative and pays great attention to individual’s needs and development. The workshop was supported by excellent information on technique and supplies. […] It was a brilliant experience and I would love to do more!!” Sian
“Your workshop has re-energised my felt-making!” Sara
“What a wonderful two days I had on Valerie’s Expressive Landscapes workshop. From the exploration of textures and collage for design inspiration to the interpretation of these into a felt piece, Valerie was encouraging, informative and more than generous with her knowledge and experience. Novices and the more experienced felters alike could gain so much from this workshop. She is a wonderful teacher and an awesome felter!! Thank you Valerie.” Jan
“I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and it has given me the push I needed […] As a tutor, I thought you were excellent and showed tact and understanding with the group as a whole. Your enthusiasm for the subject was quite infectious and I'm sure we all learned a lot from you during the two days. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful talent with us and for your endless encouragement!” Geraldine
On this one-day wet felting workshop each participant works from their chosen starting point such as a photograph, sketch, magazine tear, etc to inspire their piece. Gradually you will develop your artwork applying wool fibres, silk threads, and fabrics' inserts, as you would paint. At the end of the course, you can expect to take away with you a finished felted piece, which can also be further embellished if you so wish to.
You do not need any previous experience of felting, just a desire to delve into your creative self (and we all have one, just need a nudge to find it sometimes!).
On this two-day weekend course you will be guided through the steps I use when creating my own felt artwork. You will be encouraged to explore the qualities and behaviours of wool fibres, silk threads and fabrics through the wet-felting process. This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability from beginners to experienced felters, and only requires of you to engage your own creativity.
On day one you will first explore marks and textures through rubbings, collage and drawing. Through discerning observation, you will enhance, isolate and develop line, texture, form & colour to create a series of drawings. These will then be used as inspiration to develop experimental pieces, manipulating fibres and textiles using the layering technique.
Day two will be dedicated to creating your main felted artwork. Working from your own starting point as well as your drawings & samples from the previous day, you will develop your piece gradually applying fibres, threads and inserts in fine layers.
